I knew it would happen.......more protection to save us from ourselves. And of coarse the rocks and flowers and air, water, and birds and of coarse deer and elk and bears and eagles and even the skunks, coons, ants and mice need protected.......why? Because mother nature is so bad at it........I guess, and man is so stupid and keeps coming up with ways to kill everything. So we must do everything in our power to keep man away from the things we love. If you feel that way than wilderness designation is an attempt to save nature from evil man. By nature of it's regulation, Wilderness designation, does that, only by keeping you and I off the property. In fact it does a good job of that and I wish I could designate my properly that way......maybe I could keep people away from my property.
So what does it really protect against? It would seem it complicates forest management (which requires motor driven equipment) fire fighting (the same) and of coarse LOCKS up any natural resources that existt on the land. And of coarse if they are cleaver, it can bock off other public land that becomes sort of Wilderness also. Now, we have a road plan that is promising to shut down the entire forest at some date in the future so what I see is America loosing access to it's public lands. You call it preservation....I call it closing the door. Preservation is an interesting and confusing term........the wilderness designation assumes that restricting use preserves something. It also assumes that what it preserves can't be grown back..........it's gone for ever. Time for a reality check......it's mostly what man builds that becomes consumed by nature. Nature will win....the mouse and cockroach is tougher than you and I, gravity and weather helps the process along.. So......what are you planning to do on those wilderness areas that you don't want me to know about?.....because surely I will never venture onto wilderness land for fear of crushing a mushroom or something.
Now this is supposed to help Colorado........I guess if this is just a photo opportunity state....like the Galapagos Islands, that would be true. Few will ever see the wildlife there in person. So is Colorado a place to live, or a single purpose tourist trap? Remember if you choose "a place to live" you must enable some of us to make a living here.
I know........you really want this to be the wilderness Disney Land of America. Remember "handy cap" trails must be built.......whoops! maybe that is why they are closing down everything? Take only pictures.........leave only money.
What you will leave for the next generation, is the opportunity to go to an amusement park in a crowded city somewhere.......government does not plan to run it's public lands for tourist. You don't see them building more camping spots......do you? Environmental concerns will close more than they will ever build. I guess that's what people want.
Now I understand why tourism is bad.....all those foot prints on our tender alpine tundra........I just can't see why we ever chose it as a economic driver. The Mt. Edmonds project confines it's mess fairly well considering the alternative of tourist running all over the place.
Isn't it usually the case, that Wilderness Designation just attracts more of those crazy people....more "flight for life" visits?
Why can't these mountain walkers just "go for a hike" and leave politics alone. Are you guys really hard up for places to go hiking?
It might interest you to know that I don't want to go hiking in the mountains, nor motor cycling, bicycling, and I'm getting fed up with those that do......especially if they continue to mess with our politics. I like the old sign LAND OF MANY USES. Of coarse I live here surrounded by 80% federal and state land which is becoming a pain in the a$$ to deal with.
Seriously.....why can't you leave Colorado alone? We locals are busting our buns to make your stay as WONDERFUL as we can. You aren't improving it with BS regulation.
Of coarse that does not satisfy your ACTIVISM fix..........so......how about protecting the Moon.......it's nearly virgin, and I'm sure man could really screw it up. My new bumper sticker will read........SAVE THE MOON........because we can.
